The MAC face.

31 Mar

MAC undoubtably is the best make-up for the flawless look. With A listers such as Lady GaGa and Cyndi Lauper designing their new range there’s no way you can go wrong. MAC products are used globally by all you beauty junkies! If your new to MAC products or you need too know more information about them, your in luck! I will take you through step by step, each product you will need to achieve the “MAC look”.. happy reading !

Firstly, we need to prep the skin. To do this we use a pre-make up conditioner which is called a Primer. “Prep & Prime”. The primer helps to calm any redness, soothes the skin and blots away any excess oil. Its really important you use a primer as it helps your foundation, 1, stay on all day and 2, keep the flawless finish. Apply this under your foundation, all over your face.

Next up.. Concealer. “Pro Longwear Concealer”. A concealer is absolutely vital when thinking about any new make up. Were going to apply the concealer under the eye. Add a bit onto your ring finger and slowly dab under the eye area. This is going to banish any dark circles and make those tired eyes look bright! This will leave your eye area feeling comfortable and leave you with a matte finish. Your eyes are the most gorgeous part of your face, its what gets noticed first and what everyone looks into, so having an under eye concealer is going to illuminate the delicate area, leaving a twinkle!

Foundation.. “Pro Longwear Foundation” . This foundation is going to give you the most glamourous coverage. The clue is in the name. Its a long wearing foundation which lasts up to 15hours, so no need to top up your make up during the day! The foundation also has an spf 15 included and helps to control any oil when its hot. As well as keeping your skin feeling fresh, your skin will look flawless and illuminated. For best results id advise using a foundation brush. They help you achieve a fuller coverage and give you the studio look.

The MAC look is classically known as being “Flawless”. To achieve the flawless look we need to set the foundation so it doesn’t look shiny in any areas. “Studio Fix Powder” combines a good coverage with a velvet texture. This can be used with the sponge you get with it or simply with a big brush. For the extra full coverage and matte finish, i’d suggest using the sponge to go over your foundation with. If you want a slightly lighter coverage, you should use the brush and simply dust over the top. This powder contains something called Silica, which absorbs oils on your skin, helping to maintain a matte finish.

The Blush is pretty self explanatory. For the ultimate MAC look, I would advise you too, look in the mirror, smile and find where the apple of your cheek is. Use that as a starting point and follow your cheek bone right up to the hair line. This is going to emphasize your cheek bones as well as adding a spot of colour to your face. The colour is entirely up too you. For extra va va voom, repeat the action until the colour is beautifully bright.

As previously stated, eyes are your most gorgeous feature. So lets add some emphasis! The traditional MAC eye consists of shadow, liner and mascara. So first of all we start by using shadows. Apply a light base colour all over your eye lid. MAC eyes are dark and mysterious. So have a selection of 3 darker colours you can use. Use the darkest one on the end corners of the eyelid, slowly raising just below the brow bone to create a smokey eye. A tip for this is the “V”. With your brush draw a sideways “V” . So it should look like “>”, then work your colour blending into the V into the lighter base colour. Each time you get closer into the eyelid change colour to add a slightly more variety to the smokey eye. Once you have finished with the shadow, prepare a liquid liner or a pencil liner ( black ) and carefully draw a line across your top eyelid. For the ultimate MAC look, flick the liner out off the end of the eyelid.Lashes are a major biggie! Read my previous post about false lashes to achieve this look. All MAC fanatics wear false lashes to make their eyes look uber duber gorgeous!!

Eyebrow pencils are a complete essential. No matter if you have dark eyebrows, they need attention paying to them! Use  “Eyebrow Crayon” and there is no way you can go wrong. Slowly draw on your brow, following your natural arch shape. For more emphasis, draw slightly above and below the brow then colour in. This is a must girls!

And finally, those luscious lips! Lips are also quite essential when forming the MAC face. COLOUR COLOUR COLOUR. Start by using a lip pencil. Outline your lips then lightly colour your lips with the pencil before applying the lipstick. This is going to help keep the lipstick on and add 100% more emphasis on the colour. Choose your colour for whatever mood your in. Make sure you always apply a colour, this is completely necessary and there should be absolutely no excuses! MAC have hundreds of colours so the world is your oyster.

Try using these tips by your self and start the MAC face… you’ll never look back!

History of eyeliner

31 Mar

Used to define the eyes for aesthetic appeal, eyeliner has made its way from a primarily female-dominated market to a growing popularity among men. Its history dates back to ancient civilizations and has been worn by both men and women alike.  Over time, the ingredients have changed but the basic styles and purposes remain constant.

Let’s have a look at the history of eyeliner.

Ancient Origins

Used in Egypt and Mesopotamia in 10,000 BC, Eyeliner and other cosmetics were not only used for aesthetics but also to protect the skin from the scorching desert sun.  Research has also speculated that eyeliner was worn to protect the wearer from the evil eye. At that time, Kohl was often painted around the entire eyelid to create an almond-shaped effect and was used by both men and women.

Ancient Egyptians added lead salts to their black eyeliner to ward off bacterial infections.

Everything Egyptian

The 1920s were an era commonly associated with many changes in women’s fashion, and women felt freer to apply makeup more liberally. Besides, the discovery of King Tut’s tomb, fascinated the world by the Egyptian queen’s beauty and more specifically American women who had finally won the right to vote and thanks to the influence of actresses like Clara Bow, seemed to assert their independence more freely. These latest started recreating the Egyptian eye by using eyeliner without any restrictions. (Dark, thickly lined eyes were very trendy.)

A New Use for WWI

During the 1940s, everyone was doing his or her part to aid the war effort. Little to no makeup was worn at this time to conserve resources. The shortage of items during the World War I led to an interesting use of eyeliner. In fact, instead of being an make up product, Enterprising young women, used it to draw long black lines down the backs of their legs to simulate the look of wearing stockings that were uhnavailable at that time.

The 1960s brought about the invention of liquid eyeliner and it was used to create thick black and white lines around the eyes in the makeup fashion associated with designers like Mary Quant. The sixties saw the emergence of the cat eye.

Peter Philips (Chanel‘s creative director) created this stunning cat eyes look for the 2009 fall show: An exaggerated spin on 1960s eye liner, combined with soft pink petal pale lips using Chanel Rouge Allure in Mythic.

Today eyeliner is commonplace and comes in a variety of colors and applications.  Many women add it to their daily makeup routines.  In the late 20th and early 21st century, heavy eyeliner has been associated with Gothic fashion and sometimes even Punk fashion

Eyeliner of varying degrees of thickness, particularly on males, has also become associated with the emo subculture and various alternative lifestyles.

Christian Dior style liner

2.Powder-based eye pencil is eyeliner in a wood pencil. It is generally available in dark matte shades.

Lancome, Le crayon Khol

3. Gel eye liner, which is a softer gel liner that can be easily applied with an eyeliner brush. It can be precisely applied and is much softer than Kohl. Gel liner usually holds up very well.

Bobbi brown Long wear gel eyeliner

4.Kohl eyeliner is a soft powder available in dark matte shades. It is most often used in black to outline the eyes. It comes in pencil, pressed powder, or loose powder form. This type of eyeliner is more likely to smudge.

Scrumptious Summer Colours!

29 Mar

So we picked up this years spring/summer trends from fashion week, but what cosmetics did you pick up to go with it?! Were almost in April, so its time to start wearing the new face girls! We all want to banish the grey skies and get heavenly bronzed, so with these fabulous new products i’ve picked out for you, there is no way a cosmetic fail will be on the cards for you this season.

Bold colour’s. Check Volume lashes. Check Sunkissed Glow. Check

Base tan: Dior Bronze self tanner. This is an instant natural glow for any skin tone and can be applied to the face and to the rest of the body. The shimmery tan smooths on evenly, leaves skin feeling fresh and looking naturally healthy. This tan is brilliant for the every day sun kissed glow, without using a tanning bed. Perfect for work, social meetings, holidays and you!

Now you have a base tan, don’t forget to use your spf moisturizer. Apply over the tan on the face before applying your make-up.

Foundation: A girls best friend! In summer, we can always get away with our foundation being a shade darker, due to the sun changing our skin colouring. You’re skin is more likely to become oily during the spring/summer because of the heat. This often leaves foundation ‘slipping’ off and leaving skin feeling patchy and uncomfortable. I’ve found the best stay on foundation is Estee Lauder’s “Double Wear”. This is is fantastic for coverage and leaves skin looking flawless and feeling smooth. I have found this foundation doesn’t slide during those oily months. Finally, Yipee to Double Wear. Its a must have this summer. *Tip* Use a foundation brush for best results.

This year is all about yummy delicious bold colour’s and my my, I love them! Pink is always a summer favourite, and believe me, it still is this year! However, why not try coral? luscious coral.. fan-dabby-do-bee!

Cheeks :To achieve gorgeous, structured, super-model cheek bones, try Coralista blusher by Benefit. *Tip* line up your cheek bone with your brush so you know exactly where your dusting on. Take the brush right up to the hair line in one natural swift movement. Repeat a couple of times for the bold colour you want this season!

Lashes: All year round, lashes are a major biggie for us girls. No mascara = ending up feeling like Darnell ( Big Brother contestant ). This summer, lashes are back but even bigger! Treat yourself to some lash extensions and you’ll never look back. For a cheap option, Eylure do two fabulous options. The first one, is the Girls Aloud range. These are strip lashes, very easy to apply by yourself and you can pick your favourite band members lashes! The second is individual lashes. These are a little more time consuming and you may need someone to do them for you. However, they are very easy to do! Compliments will be fluttering your way. If you don’t want to try lash extensions, try Zoom Lash by MAC. This mascara is designed to give your lashes that extra va va voom! with the brush reaching every single lash, bringing them up to your eyebrows! This mascara comes in black or brown. *Tip*, When the mascara wand is on your lashes, once you get near the top, shake the wand from side to side and move your hand upwards in a slow motion. This will help lengthen the lashes.

Eyes: Once you have your full length super duper lashes, you wont need much more! Eye colours this season are very simple. Little tip, Lots of colour on the eyes= hardly any colour on the lips. ( We don’t want to look like transvestites). As bold colours are in this year, I suggest using a cream and a brown on the eyes ( your preference of brand. )Start off by using the lighter colour all over the eye lid. This will highlight the eye. Slowly start putting on the darker shade in the corner (nearest your ear) of the eye. slowly start introducing it to the rest of the eyelid but only go half way. *Tip*, adding a little of the dark colour underneath the eye instead of eyeliner is another season trend and perfect for everyday. For night time occasions, a traditional smokey eye is definitely working for you!

Lips: The world, is your oyster! As long as they’re bright, they’re fabulous! My three favourite shades are all by MAC. The first one is, a limited edition Lady GaGa inspired lipstick. This is called “GaGa” and it is a gorgeous pink! Perfect for you girly girls out there. The second one is a limited edition Cyndi Lauper inspired lipstick. This is called “Cyndi” and it is a bright coral. This is absolutely fabulous for everyday and night time. Its very versatile. And finally, if your feeling a little more daring! The third is called Riveting Rose. Its a purple. Don’t be alarmed! If you look on my bloggers bio picture I have it on there. *Tip* For best results use a lipliner for an ultra strong lip!

Bronzer: Dior Bronze is absolutely perfect for an all over added glow this summer! There are different shades and you can choose between matte and shimmery. Dust all over the face after foundation and blusher. This it a handbag MUST have!

I could go on for hours at all the gorgeous products out there but they are this seasons favourite’s. Some other fave’s include;

Benefit-Moon Beam. Absolutely perfect for the summer glow. Dab 3 dots up the cheek bone, after foundation but before applying the blusher.

Guerlain– Orange toned blusher. The 4 colour’s work together to reveal the inner goddess! Absolutely gorgeous for an everyday glow. Tip, dust extra when attending a bbq or social swaray!

SPF Perfection.

Say YES to great skin.

We all want healthy, glowing,de-wrinkled skin, but i’ve got news for you girls, you can use as many thankful products as god provides us with, but there is no magic formula which can totally abolish wrinkles. We get wrinkles as we age. but what makes us age? UBA and UBV rays. They are everywhere! They break the elastin underneath your skin which causes the skin to sag. Elastin is a protein which keeps the skin flexible.Without this you can say bye bye to firm skin and hello to Botox, which isn’t a pleasant experience.

I can’t stress how important it is to wear an spf moisturizer underneath your foundation. Even when the sun is not shining bright through those little clouds, the suns ageing rays are still beaming directly at your face, even through glass. Starting young is the key; keeping your skin healthy and giving it the nutrients it needs. Drinking lots of water and maintaining a healthy diet is vital, as it helps to keep that gorgeous face of yours looking fresh & full of life!

Any cosmetic brand will be able to custom fit you to the perfect day and night moisturizer. Night time is when the skin naturally repairs it self, so having an extra helper is going to work wonders.Treating your skin with an intensive serum will free your skin from any excess damage and can help to rebuild a weakened moisture barrier. So why not start now? & keep your beautiful skin forever!
